Industry · Financial services & insurance
SEO for insurance brokers. Visible from launch, not in a year.
Insurance and provision are a trust business, and a regulated one. A broker website has to do two things at once: guide cleanly in legal terms and get found locally, without descending into tariff-comparison noise. What that looks like from zero is documented here: brand, website and SEO from one team for Investmentbüro Rotenberger.
Diagnosis
Why many broker and finance websites stay invisible on Google.
The market is crowded: comparison portals dominate the generic tariff queries with budgets a single broker cannot match. Competing head-on there burns money. The reachable leverage sits elsewhere: local search intent, advice-driven topics and trust signals. Five patterns we see again and again on broker and finance websites.
The recurring picture: the website is a digital business card. A homepage with a photo and a slogan, one general services page, a contact form. Google cannot tell which searches the site is relevant for, because the content is written for everything and therefore for nothing. Mandatory disclosures such as the initial information are missing or hidden. The Google Business Profile is created but empty.
The result: the broker is present online, but invisible for the searches where a prospect actually wants advice. The first enquiry doesn't go to the most competent broker in the region, it goes to the one who is found cleanly and radiates trust in seconds.
What makes this industry special: trust and regulation weigh more than elsewhere. A missing mandatory disclosure is not only a legal risk, it is a reason to bounce. And advice topics like "income protection" or "occupational pension" are competitive, but very much reachable when focused locally and thematically.
- No topic-specific signals. One catch-all services page instead of dedicated pages for income protection, private health, commercial or provision. Google has nothing to rank specifically.
- Trust claimed, not evidenced. No named person with a profile, no real reviews, no consistent directory entries (NAP). In a trust business, the most expensive mistake.
- Half-hearted compliance. Initial information missing or hidden, legal texts outdated, tracking without proper consent. A legal risk and a bounce reason at once.
- Google Business Profile neglected. The easiest local lever, almost always unused. Incomplete categories, no response to reviews.
- Tariff comparison instead of advice. The site imitates a comparison portal, losing the one thing a broker has over the portal: personal, tangible advice.
Built from zero
Brand, website and SEO from one team, for an independent broker.
David Rotenberger is an independent insurance broker in Burgkunstadt, Germany, focused on insurance, provision and real-estate cover for private and commercial clients. Starting point: no website, no brand, a genuine start from zero. The brief: a foundation that guides clearly from day one, is broker-law clean and gets found locally.
What was built
- Brand & visual identity. Logo, colour system and visual language, the foundation the entire website builds on.
- Positioning & UX. The "Versicherungscheck" (insurance check) as a calm central entry point, separate routes for private, commercial and real estate on one shared structure. Advice over tariff pressure.
- Compliance from day one. Statutory initial information, legal notice, privacy policy, consent layer, self-hosted fonts.
- Industry schema. InsuranceAgency, Person, geo-coordinates, opening hours and service area, so Google and AI search classify the business correctly as a local broker.
- Local architecture. Location pages across the catchment area plus pages per insurance type and client segment.
Result (as of days after launch)
Data straight from Google Search Console:
- Fully indexed and already on page 1 (avg position around 8 in DE search).
- Individual pages such as the guide and process at positions 2-3.
- No clicks at this early stage, as expected. The meaningful early signal is the speed of indexation and immediate page-one presence.
Honest framing: fast indexation and early page-one positions on small volume are a strong early signal, not a finished result. Durable commercial rankings grow over months with the domain's authority. What counts here is the clean foundation that makes that growth possible at all.
What has to rank per area
Five sub-industries, five SERP profiles.
"Financial services" is not a single search world. Money queries, competition and trust signals differ so much per area that a generic strategy burns budget. The key levers per sub-industry.
-
01 · Private
Private cover & provision
income protection · private liability · contents · private health · retirement provision
Advice-driven topic queries (income protection, private health) are competitive but reachable locally and with real content depth. Guide content beats tariff lists. Trust signals (person, reviews) are a ranking and conversion lever at once.
-
02 · Commercial
Commercial & business cover
business liability · commercial cover · contents · cyber · occupational pension
B2B intent: comparative, research-driven, desktop-heavy. Dedicated pages per activity or client industry beat the catch-all page. Occupational pension is its own growing cluster with an employer focus.
-
03 · Property
Real estate & assets
buildings insurance · natural-hazard cover · landlord liability · property finance
Event-driven (spikes in natural-hazard cover after storms), requires reactive content. Owners and landlords are their own audience with their own language, distinct from pure private cover.
-
04 · Local
Insurance broker on site
insurance broker + location · insurance advice + location · independent broker near me
The local axis is the most reachable lever for regional brokers. Google Business Profile, NAP consistency and genuine location pages decide it. Map-pack eligibility via InsuranceAgency schema with geo data.
-
05 · Trust
Regulation & trust
initial information · independent advice · broker mandate · advice documentation
Not a classic traffic cluster, but the difference between enquiry and bounce. Correct mandatory disclosures, a transparent way of working and a named person are direct conversion factors in this industry and support topical credibility.
In the strategy call we assess which of these clusters are commercially viable for your business in your catchment area, where the fastest lever sits, and where competing with portals is hopeless. No blanket recommendation.
How seosath works
Four principles before the first click.
SEO for financial services is not a product you buy once and that then runs. It is structured work with clear phases, fixed price instead of an open hourly model, a direct contact instead of a key-account layer.
01 · Diagnosis before any recommendation
Before we propose anything, we check the status quo: which pages exist, how Google classifies them, where regulation and compliance stand, where the biggest lever sits. The strategy call delivers a written, prioritised action list.
02 · Fixed price per phase
Every project phase has a defined scope and a fixed price. No open hourly model, no surprise at month's end. You know before we start what is included.
03 · Brand and tech from one team
Positioning, design, content and technical foundation speak the same language because they are not spread across three providers. In a trust business especially, that consistency makes the difference.
04 · A direct contact
No key-account manager between you and the work. Strategy, tech and SEO as well as brand and visuals sit with us. The same pair of hands that plans also delivers.
Scope and boundaries
What is included, and who it fits.
The exact scope is defined in the strategy call based on your actual starting point. Typical components and the honest boundary.
Typically included: title tags, meta descriptions and H1 structure per page. Topic-specific pages per insurance type and client segment. Local architecture with genuine location pages and Google Business Profile setup. InsuranceAgency schema with geo data. Clean initial information, legal notice, privacy policy and consent. Optionally brand and visual identity.
What is not included: paid advertising, social-media build-up, legal assessment (a specialist lawyer belongs at that table). Further reading: the SEO scope in detail or Technical GDPR Audit. If you need the website itself first: website for insurance brokers.
A fit
- Independent insurance brokers and financial-services providers who want more qualified regional enquiries from Google.
- Brokers starting fresh or replacing a business-card website with a real foundation.
- Businesses that sell advice instead of tariff pressure and want to present that way online too.
- Decision-makers who want an honest assessment, not a sales pitch.
Not a fit
- Anyone wanting to compete head-on with comparison portals on generic tariff queries. That is a budget game, not an SEO game.
- Businesses expecting visibility in a few weeks. Fast indexation is possible, durable rankings take months.
- Anyone looking for an agency that "takes over everything" without a clear project scope.
Who led the build
Patrick Sosath, founder & strategist.
Trained IT business administrator, Management & Technology at OTH Regensburg, background in B2B software. Technical architecture and business reality in one person.
For Investmentbüro Rotenberger, brand, website and SEO sat with one team: logo and identity, technical foundation, schema and SEO all came from one hand. That consistency is exactly the lever three separate providers cannot deliver in a regulated trust business.
FAQ
Common questions.
Yes, if the goal is local and topic-driven enquiries from Google. Someone searching for "insurance broker" plus a location, or a specific topic like "income protection insurance", usually wants advice, not just a tariff comparison. Those enquiries go to the brokers who are visible and trustworthy, not automatically to the ones with the largest book. Whether the effort fits your starting point is what the strategy call clarifies.
As an insurance intermediary, specific duties apply: statutory initial information under the German insurance mediation regulation (VersVermV), a complete legal notice, an up-to-date privacy policy and GDPR-clean handling of tracking and third parties. These are not just obligations, they are trust signals. We build them in cleanly from day one rather than retrofitting them. For the legal assessment, a specialist lawyer belongs at the table.
Indexation itself can be fast: for Investmentbüro Rotenberger the site was indexed and on page 1 for relevant searches four days after launch. But durable commercial rankings on competitive terms typically take three to six months and growing authority. Fast indexation is an early signal, not the end result.
For a clearly defined catchment area, dedicated location pages make sense, but only with genuine, locally relevant content. Location pages built from a template with a swapped place name are treated by Google as doorway pages and dropped from the index. We map the catchment area before the build and only develop the locations that are commercially viable.
Comparison portals rank on generic tariff queries with enormous budgets, where a single broker cannot win. The leverage for a broker sits elsewhere: local search intent, advice-driven topics, trust signals and a positioning that sells advice instead of tariff pressure. That is where the SERP is reachable for specialised, locally anchored brokers.
More than in many other industries: a named, tangible person, a transparent way of working, correct mandatory disclosures, real reviews and a consistent presentation across all directories (NAP consistency). In a regulated trust business this often decides between enquiry and bounce, long before price plays a role.
Yes. For Investmentbüro Rotenberger we developed the complete visual identity (logo, colour system, visual language) and built the website on top of it. Brand and digital foundation from one team means positioning, design and content speak the same language, instead of being stitched together by three providers.
